The forgotten magic pill(s)!

The forgotten magic pill(s)!

March 8, 2024

What if we told you that you could feel better with a combination of “magic pills”, would you take them?

What if we told you that these “magic pills” have been proven time and time again to help you get results and reach your goals?

What are these “magic pills”, you ask?

MOVEMENT + NUTRITION

(formerly known as Diet + Exercise)

Let’s explore the wealth of health and good stuff these “magic pills” have to offer!

Let’s start with the benefits of movement. We can all agree that the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to moving our bodies (i.e. exercise), but let’s name a few here…

  • Resistance training can boost testosterone which enhances mood, libido and energy and also helps to prevent osteoporosis (we could just stop here, but we won’t…)
  • Muscle mass can help your body manage blood sugar balance (our muscles use glucose for energy)
  • Muscle has a thermogenic effect (having more muscle burns more calories at rest)
  • Movement can help improve important vitality markers (i.e. blood pressure, cholesterol, heart rate, grip strength)
  • We tend to make better food choices with regular movement routine
  • Improves other lifestyle habits (i.e. sleep, stress)
  • And the list goes on and on!!

As you can see, the magic pill, MOVEMENT, has so many benefits. And the best part is that there are so many variations of what this “pill” could look like for you.

Now, let’s focus on the next magic pill…nutrition (aka diet). Nutrition and food science is constantly evolving, and we are always learning more about the best way to be “healthy”. But before we get sucked in to a rabbit hole with all the information out there on nutrition, let’s go back to the basics and simplify all the noise…

What should we focus on?

Protein. Protein is made from amino acids, which are the building blocks. Getting enough protein can help keep you full (satiety), blood sugar balance, and support your bone and muscle health. Protein will support your muscle gains you earn at the gym 🙂

Fats. First off, the word fat has a negative connotation. Let’s change that! We NEED to eat enough fat (cholesterol) in our diet to make hormones (i.e. estrogen, progesterone). The key is to focus on healthy fats (such as omega-3s) that will also support your brain health.

Fiber. Fiber is important for so many things including satiety, blood sugar balance, and healthy bowels. Regular bowel movements are one of the best ways to rid your body of excess toxins. Think of your bowel movement as your daily (yes, we mean daily) report card.

Whole foods. Eat real, whole foods that don’t come in a package or box that tells you how “healthy” it is. Focusing on whole foods is an easy way to get an adequate amount of all your macronutrients (protein, fat, carbs) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals).

The magic pill, NUTRITION, is so important to support your body from the inside out! Maybe you can stop swallowing all of those expensive meds and supplements! It also doesn’t have to look the same as everyone else or be overwhelming. Start by making one better choice each day and ADDING something healthy vs always feeling that we need to restrict ourselves.

In addition to the two most important (in our opinion) “pills”, there are other lifestyle factors that can play a role in yielding the best results for yourself. Welcome the Wellness Wheel!

All of these factors are a piece of the puzzle that work synergistically to make up YOU.

ALL of them have an impact on how you are feeling and we can create change in any of these areas of our life!

But know you that don’t have to do this alone. You don’t have to do this all at once.

Small steps. Subtle shifts. Big changes.
